The bell tower – a refuge from zombies!

Bell Tower zombiesJust when we thought we could name every single really good reason to live in Greene County, we’ve learned another. The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower has been named on a list of the 10 best places in Iowa to hide in case of a zombie apocalypse

According to Estately.com, Iowa was ranked #15 for states where folks are most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse. A person can’t be too safe against zombies, though, so the list names 10 places where the odds of survival are best. Safest place in Iowa? The Anamosa state penitentiary. Secure walls and plenty of food to wait out the undead. Number 2 is a local hospital, again for the food. Next is a church – plenty of wine, the website points out. Camp Dodge is listed, too. Use those big guns against the zombies.

The bell tower is Number 9 on the list. It’s a perfect place to hide, according to the website. From atop the tower people could see zombies approaching, and “another huge plus – zombies  don’t know how to work elevators so even if they infiltrated the front door, they could never figure out how to get up to the top,” the website states.

Jefferson isn’t the only place in the county with an advantage. Number 6 on the list is a general suggestion to go to the tiniest, most rural town you can find. More people equals more zombies, so go somewhere there are very few people. Those towns can be our secret.

“See what happens when people start finding out about our community? We are now a safe place to go if we get invaded by zombies,” Greene County Development Corporation Ken Paxton said when he heard the good news.
